Date Spots Volume 1: Neptune Food and Wine
For a period of about 6 months I was really down on Melbourne's south. I have lived in the area since I moved to Melbourne 3 years ago and have kind of been in a love hate (mostly love) relationship with it. I should have prefaced this by saying that everything about the Prahran / Windsor location is categorically the business – shopping, food and bevs. It's ace. But the array of 24 hour night clubs and general shenanigans that come with a nocturnal lifestyle, kind of detracted, for me anyway, from all the legend parts of the area.
Since I have moved, there have been some great restaurants pop up in the area and I have j'adored the shiz out of that, but for an old duck like me, a place that is vibey but chill and focused on good wines and yummy snacks, were just few and far between. Fast forward to earlier this year and the food and booze gods answered my prays and sent me Neptune Food and Wine.
Neptune is tucked up High Street a wee stroll from Hanoi Hannah, close enough to the Chapel action, but just far enough back to make it busy but not fully hectic. I have saddled up there a few times, most recently yesterday with a gal pal for a cheeky vino and a wee snack and leave feeling elated (not just on account of the Malbecs I have consumed) but because it's just so darned pleasant!
The people who work here are delightful, the wine list is a ripper and the snacks are just what you need to soak up said delicious wine, but the larger options for those wanting to do more dining is just as good.
Here are what the guys recommend you do on your date at Neptune and why they think it’s tops.
